 Caveman's Crib!

A picture named cavemans-crib.jpgWhile looking at the new Geico Caveman commercial - the best series of commercials in years - we came across the new Geico site Caveman's Crib.

This is a tour of his "crib", #1231. Move your mouse around the screen - note that things light up. You can also tour some rooms.

Note - there is something odd here: there are two websites which appear identical (the object ID of the flash is the same). But why two sites? There may be a clue in one of the magazines.

http://iheartcaveman.com/

and   http://www.cavemanscrib.com/

Note the reference to his roommate "T", who is in the newest commercial and has a girlfriend (although there is a message on the answering machine to the contrary).

Be sure to see the 2nd Talia Shire commercial on his TV!

And guess who has a blog?

All in all, great (automotive) advertising!

Now when do we get to see his Mother, and when do we learn what he drives?

 New Geico Caveman commercial!

If you've been following this series of ads - and an earlier post on my Auto Industry Advertising Blog has links to them all as well as to my commentary, then you'll be glad to see not just one more commercial but two - and a new website as well.

The first is the next official commercial in the series.  There is not much new here other than the appearance of the caveman roomate named "T". But it does also set the stage for the second item below by showing us the caveman party. And that there is an issue between two of the cavemen - one has "cheated".

And then there is a second commercial - with a link to an important site. Be sure to follow the link....

January S2000 sales down 47% YTY

In what is starting out to be a disastrous year, January S2000 sales are down 47.2% year-to-year.

My sales tracking spreadsheet is shown below, covering the full 2006 CY and the first month of 2007.

Of course, as we also learned this month when the Solstice beat the Miata sales, volume does not a sports car make. But looking at it realistically, volume does pay the bills.

American Honda Reports Best-Ever January Sales
Record CR-V sales help increase light truck sales by 11.0 percent

TORRANCE, Calif 02/01/2007 --

American Honda Motor Co., Inc., posted a new January record for total vehicle sales of 100,790, eclipsing the 2006 record of 98,394, the company announced today. With one additional selling day in 2007, sales declined 1.7 percent based on the daily selling rate*. American Honda January light truck sales hit a record high of 47,378, up 11.0 percent compared to 2006.

Honda Division posted record January sales of 87,773, up from last year's record of 84,413, and was supported by record light truck sales of 41,427. Light truck models that broke January records included the CR-V, up 48.1 percent to 14,390; and the Odyssey, up 4.5 percent to 11,165. Sales for Accord, the company's volume leader, increased 12.0 percent for the month to 25,714.

"A strong light truck lineup contributed to the company's record January sales," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda. "The crossover segment continues to grow and key products like the Honda CR-V are increasingly important."

The all-new Acura MDX, up 3.8 percent to 4,153, led the Acura Division's sales volume of 13,017. Sales for the MDX and RDX sport luxury SUVs resulted in record Acura light truck sales of the month totaling 5,951. Compared to record January 2006 Acura sales of 13,981, total division sales decreased 10.6 percent based on the daily selling rate.

*The daily selling rate is calculated with 25 days for January, 2007, versus 24 for 2006.
