INTRODUCTION
The Aston Martin Rapide concept is a four-door, high performance coup
If you haven’t seen the new Bond film, you haven’t seen the best Bond film in *many* years. And you haven’t seen the interesting European Fords featured in the film: the 2007 Mondeo (not yet shown in public) and a new Aston Martin (special DBS model created for the film).
The Aston Martin DBS is stunning… Astons are some of the (if not the) best looking cars on the planet. The special body pieces created for the film add a necessary performance element to the otherwise sleek and svelt Aston bodyshell. And you do get to hear the V-12 engine under moderate acceleration. The sound is *great*… while it lasts (hint).
And then there is the Mondeo – a future Mondeo that hasn’t even gone into production yet. As you’ll see from the Ford press release below, Ford jumped the gun and built a partially-working Mondeo mockup just for the film. The Mondeo is… interesting. There are a few body peices (lower spoilers, under-grill, etc.) which may or may not make it to production as some sort of sport option. But the basic body is there. Bond does drive the car… slowly. The suspension calibration are clearly off. One door wavers a bit when closed. But it is the new Mondeo. And it’s interesting in appearance – unlike anything in the ‘states. Thankfully, no Fusionesque chrome bars in the grill!
If anything, the new Mondeo looks a bit too narrow and tall. The add-on body pieces stronly accentuate that impression. That’s a problem…
