Jason Statham stars in new Death Race movie

Death Race is a loose remake of Death Race 2000, the schlock classic starring David Carradine (Frankenstein) and Sylvester Stallone (Machine Gun Joe Viterbo). It’s set in a similar future post-industrial wasteland, where the most popular sport is a brutal cross-country race with no rules and points awarded for murdering innocents – and the more innocent the better.

Ordinarily I don’t like remakes but the starring presence of Jason Stratham will make this a fun movie to see over dinner and drinks. His modified Mustang (below) is outfitted with chain guns, flamethrowers, and grenade launchers.

The release is scheduled for August 22 2008, although that may change if release dates have to be moved around to mitigate the (possible) upcoming actors strike.
