Next-generation global Focus – images
This is the new generation Focus, in 4- (silver) and 5-door (red) form.
The styling is based on an update of what Ford terms “kinetic” design. We saw that in the last gen Focus, the new Fiesta, and even the new Taurus. Flowing, muscular, swept back features. In this latest iteration of kinetic, the area under the bumper line has gotten even larger and we’re not sure we see the point of that from a “form follows function” or aerodynamic standpoint.

The silver car is a fully optioned model. We’re not sure we see the point of the ultra low profile wheels. This is production equipment, not show-car material.

The interior is also based on Ford’s new design language and is…. busy. Lots of lines moving in lots of directions. We like the steering wheel, with it’s minimal-sized airbag housing. And note the thumb grips.

Finally there is the red 5-door hatch. “Normal” sized tires on this one, much more practical and representative of what we’ll see on the street in 2011. Ford sees a hatchback as a premium offering – marking the return of hatches to the North American market. Makes grest sense (and now lets see one on the Mustang again!).
