7 Liter "Boss" Engine -
Test engine under contract to Ford
Specifications unknown, other than 7 liters
in size. Believed to be a test version of the 6.2l SOHC engine built under
contract by Roush in order to stress test the new Boss engine architecture.
- You'll notice that the engine is longer than
a 4.6 Mod motor. However, look carefully and you'll notice the cam covers
extend past the front engine cover, ala the 3.9/4.0/4.2. The water pump
(positioned very high) is set well back. This allows for a much
overall-shorter engine, keeps weight balance further back, and allows the
engine to fit in existing spaces.
- Notice how narrow the heads are, compared to
a mod motor.
- Note the port injection - this is not a
direct-injection engine as the rumor mills and self-proclaimed "insiders"
had originally proclaimed.
Note: there have been no announcements by Ford.
Therefore, everything is tentative and unofficial.
